38-40 Academy Street,
Inverness,
IV1 1JT
The Exchange is a fairly generic but otherwise ok sports bar. Lots of tellies so good for watching football. Serves food. Very busy on Saturday afternoons with football fans/shoppers having some pub grub. They have a quiz on Monday nights.
Didn't this used to be...?

Totally agree with Highlandhaggis, I have also had the mispleasure to be served by Mr Attitude. You go out to relax and have a good time, not get wound up by some rude incompetant barman.
I will not drink there now if I spot him through the window, a practice that all my friends have also adopted.
Went for a repeat visit to The Exchange on Academy Street, only to leave in utter disgust.
I arranged to meet a friend there one afternoon to catch up and have a pint or two.
He had already arrived and had a pint in front of him, in which he was half way through.
As I approached the bar I asked my friend what he was drinking, he replied "Peroni". When I turned around to order what drink I wanted there was a pint of Peroni staring at me and a foriegn looking chap demanding payment for the aforementioned beverage.
I told him I never ordered that and I wanted a Crabbies. He replied that I said I wanted a Peroni and would not take no for an answer. He was very abrupt and aggressive with his attitude which disgusted us both.
We had to leave as the atmosphere was a very uncomfortable one, my friend leaving half the pint he had already paid for.
Best avoided until this terrible employee has either been retrained in customer service or shown the door. Here's hoping the later.
I will be contacting Belhaven, the owners. Update to follow.
A nice looking bar which could be a hell of a lot better.
A decent atmosphere with not to load music.
Staff can seem somewhat disinterested, especially one chap who is just downright rude.
It has so much potential this bar to be a great bar but never seems to accomplish it.
Nothing to special nice decor. But that's all that is going for it.
Would be great to know if under 18s are allowed in? Or perhaps by a certain hour?
I am planning on going to the quiz night tomorrow with my son and not sure if he is allowed in. Cheers.
When on holiday, I took a friend along to this place, not knowing what to expect,we were both very pleased with our meals. The service and price for drinks and the meals was very good.
Food left alot to be desired! Drink over priced! Nicely decorated tho!
Went there Monday 14th for the very much lauded Charity Quiz Night. Sorry to say, but what a complete disappointment! £5 a head entry (and not £5 per team as told over the phone) but ok, it was for charity so we'll let that one go. Totally disorganised quizmaster who I think thought he was a DJ - had music playing in the background at various levels at the same time as trying to ask questions through a muffled microphone. No one expects an expert all of the time but basic annunciation and at least a passing knowledge of how to talk to an audience is always welcome. Service from the bar staff started off ok, but even they seemed to lose interest and the will to live as the night dragged on, including a couple of stints of walking straight past waiting customers at the bar and wandering around the floor.
On the more positive side, there was one cheery wee barmaid who was despatched around every nook and cranny to sell raffle tickets in aid of the charity and did at least expand her attentions past the 3 'locals' who were perched at the end of the bar.
(incidentally 'quizmaster' - rules regarding the use of mobile phones to get answers might not be a bad thing if you're going to continue down the quiz route - that way, comments from fellow customers about locals always winning and people cheating to get answers might not be so audible)
Toilets were clean I've got to say, and the place was generally bright and clean too but like many places, the temptation for staff to all congregate at the one end of the bar when bored was slightly evident. I agree with previous comments regarding the malt selection - not bad, but would be nice to see some Scapa up there amongst the rest of the usual 'tourist selection' and a few others.
I would go back, yep, but not on a quiz night I'm afraid ... it was dire. Any pubs planning painting their walls, please contact me so I can arrange to come and watch the paint dry!
I do enjoy a pint or two at the exhange, very nice atmosphere and a great selection of Malts, which is always a good thing. Complete tranformation from PIVO. Toilets are a nightmare though, you gota scale Ben Nevis to get to them.
Now the Exchange. Although its not bad I can't see how it is the top rated bar on here
New bar, looks great and the atmosphere is a hundred times better! They also serve the best pints in town!!
