New Soul City Live featuring Jesse Rae & The Thistles Ironworks Doors: 22:00 Ticket Price: £7.00 Jesse Rae & his backing band, The Thistles, are returning to Scotland to play their first gig in over 10 years, at the Ironworks Live Music Venue in Inverness. The event, hosted as part of the regular “New Soul City Live” night with Donald McColl will take place on the 26th of March from 10pm to 2am. Rae is well known as a cult figure due to his distinctive Scottish garments that he claimed he wouldn’t take off until Scotland gained its independence and for his 1983 single “Over The Sea”, which won a Vira award the same year. A noted songwriter, he has performed as a member of funk band “The Space Cadets” and wrote the Top 3 single “Inside Out” for Odyssey, a disco classic still played on radio to this day. The event will have Jesse Rae performing the tracks from his first album from the WEA label, “The Thistle” as well as revealing new tracks he has recently recorded with the production teams behind Timbaland and Timberlake. Musically, the style is a hybrid of funk music, mixed with distinctly Scottish elements, unlike anything most Top 40 radios have ever had the chance to play. Nowadays, Rae is responsible for the setting up of Brick FM, a radio station in his hometown of St Boswells and has been broadcast to over 2 million people, reaching as far as Africa. With fans including superstar director Martin Scorsese, Jesse Rae is clearly an artist appealing to both his old fans and the newer generation of Scottish teens and adults, who are after something a little different from the norm.
