Bar just down from the castle with above average restaurant at the rear.
The 27 has just about the most impressive selection of European bottled and draught beers in town and puts other bars to shame in this respect. These come at a price but if you ask Urbarred, its well worth paying for some quality beverage!

Friendly staff, good food.
Giving Number 27 top marks!
Really based on lunchtime visits, although have enjoyed their early evening supper deal too. Prices very reasonable considering quality ,especially lunch and early evening. Excellent menu, friendly staff. Quick service too (lunch).
Beers good, house wine excellent.
I love the beer selection here and as an added bonus it's almost always completely ned-free!
Food always fantastic, great range of beers and very friendly staff. Will definetly return, may even try to convince work collegues to come for xmas night out dinner.
After reading the reviews and rating on here I was really looking forward to visiting and sadly I could not have been more disappointed. We visited early evening on a Friday and found over half of the pumps to be off, and upon finding one of the European Beers actually on, it looked and tasted like dirty dish water and was very warm.
I doubt very much that this is the norm here but as I was only on a short visit, I left half of my pint and headed on into town.
Food did smell nice though!
The 27 is a quality place to eat and drink. Great selection of beers and malts and the food is as good as it has always been.
Amazingly good food to suit all tastes. Great array or draughts lagers, my favourite being Cobra - go on try it! Bar staff friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Great all-rounder of a pub!
food is excellent good selection of beers no complaints here.
It was for hootannany's 1/5

Fantastic Meal last night, Great selection of Chef's Specials & Wines. Drink seems to be the about the same as the other Bars in town if not cheaper. Bril atmosphers, very busy. Keep up the good service. 10/10
Quality pub, great food and a nice quiet atmosphere. Selection of beers is immense (Warsteiner is best beer in the world) Somewhere you can relax and talk over a good beer in the centre.
One of the better bars in the town.
You can get served here no problem.
They sell Hoegaarden and Fürstenberg, two of the finest beers next to Weihenstephan heffe(pronounced 'Vessen', the oldest brewery in the world).
Class in a Glass.
Hoegaarden back on still looking into getting some other draught beers in
Suggestions? They could get wieheinstephan so the Castle tavern doesnt have it all to itself. oh..oh... or Pauliner Heffe that stuff is sweet.
Absolutely fabulous!
In reply to last 2 comments the no 27 is a freehouse and not attached to any brewery and cannot get supplied hoegaarden at the moment as they've moved their brewery to Russia - they are trying to sort out a replacement - any suggestions?
According to rumours this place has/is about to change brewery and the mighty hoie will no longer be served. No longer any point of going there now.
Was in here recently and was deeply disappointed to see the hoegaarden was still off.
The Nip Inn is on urbarred but nobody has ever rated them! www.urbarred.com/nip%20inn.html
nip inn isn't here cos its a dive. i hate walking along grant street nowadays.
Great that there is still a bar in town where you don't get deafened by bad music or annoyed by scabby drunks. Food is great and service brilliant too.
Good service, good pint. High prices keep the neds out. Food excellent. Definitely top 5 pub.
Quality bar, not sure about american diner bit all paintings by scottish artists. Excellent food and service, good pints and selection of bottled beer.
The decor is terrible and the seating is cramped. the bouncers insist on keeping the doors open in sub zero temperatures and the drinks are overpriced. Uninspiring.
Re-decoration disasterous, especially the lighting. Bereft of atmo. Service slow and who needs Belgian wheat beer?
Why is the Nip Inn not on this site? It's amazing.
Yeah, good food and selection of beer.
Atmosphere a bit flat.
Checked down the back of the sofa, I'm about twelve pence short of the million, can anyone help?!
